Have you ever felt inspired to action when you peek inside someone else’s life? I would love to hear about it: my spirit is uplifted by people who help others in meaningful ways. It happens every day, although I feel we seldom hear about it.
That’s why I wanted to share with you how I’ve aligned Bent Fine Jewelry with a cause that’s become more and more common as the baby-boomers age: caretaking. You may remember I had written a blog post not too long ago as it pertains to caretaking and how I had taken care of my husband after he suffered a TBI. Along with people that suffer injuries or live with disabilities, the baby-boomers are developing their own ailments, and the challenge to take care of these individuals rests on the shoulders of spouses, family members and professionals.
I have watched first-hand two incredibly strong women within my family care of their ailing husbands. Being in the trenches day in and day out, can wear a person out, break them down and severely affect their mental and physical health. No doubt it’s a rough gig, but there’s several habits that can counteract the negative effects of long-term caregiving. One habit in particular is proven to have dramatic, positive results.
If you’re not familiar, you may find meditation as foreign to you as another language. You don’t read it, you don’t understand a conversation when it’s spoken and may not find it necessarily intriguing. But what if I told you that meditation has been shown to be an effective counter-balance to care-taking? What if I told you that it can have profound and lasting effects on your overall welfare? Would you be interested then?
Research has proven that meditation for caregivers (and patients alike) can lower stress and improve sleep, mood and blood pressure. Caring for a loved one can be a monumental challenge with lasting effects but if a caregiver (or anyone for that matter) can learn to be more mindful, there is a huge benefit.
I don’t pretend to be an expert in meditation…far from it! However, I have been so inspired by the caretaker, ‘warrior’ women in my family, I want to help those within our community worn thin by the effects of caregiving. Starting this month, Bent Fine Jewelry has launched an initiative to sponsor caregivers to one FREE meditation class per week at Namaste, a Healing and Meditation Studio based in our beautiful community of Evergreen, Colorado.
I am thrilled to partner with Namaste to offer this unique opportunity and look forward to our journey together. Whether you or someone you know is a professional caregiver or takes care of a family member living with a TBI, dementia, Alzheimer’s, or a disability, the high altitude and calming energy of Namaste provides the ultimate setting for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual transformation.
If you’re in the area, learn more about Namaste and check out meditation times for your FREE class here. If you’re not in the area, there’s plenty of online resources, apps or merchandise you can purchase to start a new meditation journey for yourself. Please leave a comment or email me; I look forward to hearing how it’s transformed your life!
