• BFJ Turns One!

Well, as the saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun.  I cannot believe it’s been a year since I opened my (virtual) doors to Bent Fine Jewelry.  My heart is filled with such gratitude for ALL OF YOU.  You have supported my ideas, concepts, late night texts and yes, purchased my designs.

It may sound absurd, but I didn’t know what to expect when I launched my brand of baubles.  There’s a few things I’ve learned along the way, and I’d love to share them with you.  Come on this walk down memory lane with me, won’t you?  It won’t take long, I promise.

    • When you’re a small business owner (or entrepreneur of any sort), you are so passionately involved in creating, you hope everything else falls into place. You hope when someone wears that bracelet, eats that cupcake or uses that buttery lotion, there’s a certain pleasure that radiates from within.  Frankly, what you’ve purchased as a consumer has been made with love.  For me, it’s like giving birth to hundreds of little bracelet babies that eventually find loving homes.  Or something like that.
    • When you’re supporting others in whatever endeavor they’ve chosen, you’re supporting them as a person. You are supporting the very dream that they hold dear to their heart.  What a concept!  I know we’re not going to dismantle Target anytime soon, but it’s good for your soul and the universe to make a difference in someone’s life by authentically saying “I like what you’re doing so much, I’m going to pay for it with my hard-earned cash.”
    • This stuff isn’t for sissies. Dedication, consistency and resolve top my list for the attributes necessary for running a solid business.  I have tried extremely hard to make sure your experience as a consumer is fun, enjoyable and most of all, beautiful.  I love what I do and I hope it shows.  It’s jewelry, not heart surgery so it should be a good time, no?
    • It takes a leap of faith, but it’s so worth it to ‘live what you love’. No matter if it’s a hobby, part-time gig or full-time profession.  I told you I cried when I resigned as a mortgage loan officer, right?  I had been in that profession since the year 2000 (when Beyonce was just a baby singing lead vocals in Destiny’s Child)!  And yes, I compartmentalize timeframes in my life by popular music….doesn’t everyone?  Kudos to the mortgage industry though: lessons I’ve learned throughout my career as a lender served me well this past year.  I don’t miss my old profession, so I guess that means my heart chose its true path.

Lastly, there’s never been a bigger cheerleader, better hustler, closer confidant and meticulous accountant than my husband.  When I was first married, one of my best friend’s husbands came up to me and told me that my Bill was the nicest person he’s ever met.  Ever.  For half the night he told me this.  I was beginning to think things were going to take a weird turn, and thankfully they didn’t because that would have been awkward.  I’ve heard that comment over and over again throughout the years.  I would have to agree with my whole heart.  Thank you for everything, my love.

THANK YOU ALL from the bottom of my heart for loving my designs, and therefore, loving me.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue this journey with you.  Motivated doesn’t even begin to cover it…I’ll try to inspire you as much as you inspire me.

     XOXO Liz

      Liz!

Whenever I read anything you have written, I get the chills…It always has so much meaning and you are so genuine. I miss you leaving notes in the middle of my Living Room floor…so Libby would be sure and see it…Wish you were closer, but I know you are truly where you want to be. Would love to see you when you come to Ft. Thomas!!
